Caring Hands Animal Hospital is a network of eight veterinary hospitals treating dogs and cats in the Alexandria, Arlington, Ashburn, Bristow, Centreville, Merrifield, and Clarendon, Va, and Rockville, MD areas. We are an AAAHA accredited hospital, open six days a week, and offer an array of services including wellness exams, sick visits, vaccinations, microchipping, health and travel certificates, acupuncture, laser therapy, surgery, intensive care, ultrasound, x-ray, in-house lab, pet dentistry, and more.     DVM, Partner and Co-owner

    Dr. Newman, Co-Owner, is a graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in 1992. He has practiced veterinary medicine in Georgia, Nevada, and in Virginia. His interests include emergency medicine, surgery, and shelter medicine. He has three children: a daughter, Virginia, and twins, Elisabeth and Jack. His extended family consists of two dogs: Honeysuckle and Daisy May; three cats: Three, Tangerine, and Kip; two Guinea pigs: Nonie and Milkshake; and bird: Spencer; and a horse: Charlie. Dr. Newman is the immediate past president of the VVMA, an advisor for the NOVA Veterinary Technician Program, Vice President of the Loudoun Community Cat Coalition, board member of the Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services, and President of CHASE (Caring Hands Animal Support and Education).

    Dr. Michelle Vitulli, founder, and owner of Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Inc in Centreville, Virginia, is a 1991 graduate of Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Vitulli is a co-owner of 7 other Caring Hands locations, Arlington which opened in 2002, Bristow, which opened in 2005, Ashburn which opened in 2007, Alexandria, which opened in 2012, Merrifield, which opened in 2014, Rockville which opened in 2015, Clarendon which opened in 2016, and a location in Aventura, FL in 2017. She has interests in cardiology, internal medicine, and preventive care for senior pets. Dr. Vitulli, and her husband Bob have three children, Daniel, Julia and Anna, a dog named Harley, and three cats named Dewey, Little Bear, and Aslan.

    Dr. Neumann, Medical Director, is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. Brian is a native of Bethesda, MD, and attended Virginia Tech as an undergraduate. His veterinary interests include emergency medicine, geriatric care, dentistry, and ultrasound. In his free time, he is very interested in scuba diving, fishing, Washington Redskins and Virginia Tech Hokies football, running, hiking, cooking and traveling. You can find him at a local craft brewery or winery on weekends when not working. He is currently living in North Alexandria.

    DVM and Medical Director

    Dr. Rossi, an associate veterinarian, is a graduate of Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He is originally from Long Island and obtained his bachelor’s degree at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. His professional interests include surgery, preventative medicine, ultrasonography, and dermatology. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, CrossFit training, traveling, and cheering on the New York Rangers and New York Jets. He currently lives in Alexandria.

  • Elizabeth Snellgrove

    DVM

    Dr. Snellgrove, an associate veterinarian, obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Science at URI and UCONN before graduating from The Royal Veterinary College in London. She grew up in a US Foreign Service family and has lived in Hungary, Mexico, Australia, England, and Virginia. She has spent shorter periods in countries in the Pacific, Africa, and Central America. Her veterinary interests include soft tissue surgery, geriatrics, and voluntary shelter medicine. In her spare time, she and her husband like to visit dog-friendly locations with their two Brittany’s or explore new breweries and wineries. She also runs hashes with her husband, a rugby club member, and is trying her hand at triathlons.

    Dr. Doss, an associate veterinarian, is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. Lauren grew up in Oakton, VA and attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate education. She obtained degrees in Biology and Animal Science. Her veterinary interests include internal medicine, theriogenology, animal behavior, and soft tissue surgery. In her free time, Lauren enjoys visiting schools and nursing homes with her therapy cat, Bella. She also enjoys practicing acrobatics and acro yoga, as well as engaging in outdoor activities. Another pastime is cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies! Lauren currently lives in Arlington, Virginia with her cat, Bella.

    DVM

    Dr. Schmelter, an associate veterinarian, is a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She was born and raised in Vienna, Virginia, and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in Human Biology. Dr. Schmelter obtained her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA) through Chi University in June 2023 and is currently working toward her Certification in Veterinary Rehabilitation (CCAT) through North Carolina State University. Her professional interests include geriatric medicine, pain management, neurology, and internal medicine. Dr. Schmelter lives in Alexandria with her fiancé Luke and their chihuahua Emmy. She is an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and in her free time enjoys snowboarding, hiking, camping, and traveling with Luke and Emmy.
